Garden UK
Opening 2011
The site, which covers some 6 500 m², surrounds a 110 m² prefabricated house (designed by Johannes Kaufmann) in the middle of the wine-producing part of Austria’s Burgenland region. The specifications included fastgrowing plants, low maintenance requirements, and a homely feel. A carpet of grass encircles the house and integrates it into the outlying ring of meadowland. Two groves of trees provide shade and help frame the property. The garden is framed by an inner ring of grasses, while a natural meadow bisected by a footpath occupies the remaining area. Birches, nut trees, and cherries disguise unattractive views.
